Coffee Setup

So, since the site has relation to coffee in it's title, it's only fair I should describe my coffee setup. Sadly, no affiliate links for us, just my preferences and recommendations.

The Method

Obviously, I am a huge fan of Hario V60 - the link is to the grey 02 variant I have at home.

I use the James Hoffman One Cup method.

Works wonders. To summarize:

  • Grind your coffee (18g)
  • Boil some water (300+ml)
  • Rinse the paper filter with hot water (also pre-heats the cup and the V60).
  • Insert coffee, dig a small hole at the top
  • Pour 50ml, wait for bloom (30s)
  • While water>0:
    • Pour 50ml
    • Wait 10s
  • wait until fully drained (approx 3min)

In these hot months I also enjoy Hario on the ice:

The only difference being that I use 150ml water and 150g of ice (so a 1:1 ratio). Just put the ice into your coffee container below the filter. Don't rinse the hot water into the ice!

The Grinder

Currently, I still enjoy my Porlex Mini II. It's a small hand grinder with a ceramic core, producing surprisingly consistent results. I am slowly looking for an upgrade, I have my eyes on Niche Zero. But the humble porlex works very well and Christmas is so far away.

The Water

Our tap water is pretty good. Still, filter is the way to go and a basic Britta setup works.

The Beans

As I am trying to maintain some degree of privacy, I sadly can't disclose my sources of beans as they are very local. These small roasteries are just lovely and I'd love to give them a shoutout. Another advantage is that I can keep the beans very fresh, since they are not travelling in a truck for weeks after roasting.

Outro

So now you can imagine me sipping on the coffee while working and messing around in the interwebs. Highly recommend to try these setups, it takes a tiny bit of practice, but the result is a very pleasant and light cup of coffee. Enjoy!
